Synopsis
Story of a group of children and their upper middle class families growing up in late 19th and early 20th century. In the end the author kills off almost all in WW1 leaving 2 shattered survivors from the boys.

Interminable. I persisted as there was just enough fruit in the stodge to keep me going but it was hardly worth it. The milieu - early fabian/socialist/arts and crafts movement was interesting. Very irritating in its background mix of real people and events with the fictional so that you are often not sure whether anecdotes and "facts" about the Fabians are really true or not.
