Review of "The White Ribbon"

B&W photography, elliptically framed, voice-over narrator (the village schoolteacher) provides periperially invovled observation of the unfolding events. Excellent acting throughout. Evocation of a near feudal social order and strict protestant (lutherian, presbytarian) repression

Had to stop watching half way through as the nastiness of these events too distressing. First half builds up the scene, establishing the dolphins as animals that we don't fully understand and routinely

Review of "Strictly Ballroom"

Brilliant fun, engaging small town story set in interesting sub-culture (Aussie Rule Ballroom Dancing). Excellent feel-good movie with humour and warmth
