Clever unpeeling of twisting layers

Basically a Mark Rylance vehicle the action all takes place within the confines of his two room shop. At first we may think he is just a cutter (one of the best) who came to Chicago after his shop in London burned down killing his wife and child.

But there is a lot more than that as various tropes

Director : Tom Harper

Film Summary :

Review Summary :
Pretty formulaic, but well executed and performed.

Entertaining but Inconsequential

The Jessie Buckley Julie Walters mother-daughter tensions are well played, the story solid and avoids veering too far into cliche star-is-born territory.

Review Summary :
a powerful depiction of a horrific experience for a young girl

Intense and Harrowing

From the gentle opening and the introduction to the life of the comunity to the sudden disruption - anticipted by some but not expected right now by any - where the film takes a much darker turn in is initially engrossing and then gripping.

Engrossing and charming

Not fast paced, but not languid. Not laugh out loud, but funny. Convincingly acted. Clear precursor to Hunt for the Wilder People and JoJo Rabbit (same director)and just as good.
