Synopsis
Padraic and Colm are a mismatched pair of friends who meet every day at the pub until one day Colm decides that he doesn't like Padaic any more and wants to leave something worthwhile behind by concentrating on his fiddle playing.
Colm lives alone with his dog, Padaic lives with his sister Siobhan and a donkey (and some cows). Padraic can't accept Colms reason that he finds him a dull fellow - and then things get difficult. Ultimately there is a reconcilliation of sorts but not until Padraic's donkey has been killed and his sister has left for the mainland, Colm's house has burnt down and he has cut off all the fingers on his own left hand.

Strange & unlikely but oddly compelling
Summary
A strange tale about male friendship and changeFull review
Obviously well photographed and directed 'tis a slender and unlikely tale but oddly compelling. Touching and exploring several deep questions - am I a dull fellow, what is a friend, what is the meaning of our endless numbered days with all of the civilised baggage stripped away by the limitations of the environment in which the characters operate - pertpetual sunset, minimal social contact - there is something of the Samuel Beckett about it.
