Synopsis
Adults are required to have a partner. If they loose their partner they have 45 days to find a replacement or be turned into the animal of their choice. Partners are based on a shared defining characteristic. Colin Farrell starts off by making a couple of male friends in the hotel where they have to make their match, but near the end of his term he tries to fake a relationship with disastrous consequences (not least for his brother the dog) and goes on the run to join The Loners where relationships are barred and the rules just as arbitrary and prescriptive. He falls genuinely in love (or is it genuine being still based on a shared characteristic of sortsightedness thus perpetuating the conventions of the world they seek to oppose) with eventual outrageous consequences.

The premise of the film is confined to the frame, the world depicted makes no sense outside its appearance but accepting that we are able to witness the bare truths underlying social norms and expectations.
