Review of "Les Diaboliques"

Its a classic, and deservedly so. In this original version the twists are subtler and the sexual tensions more nuanced. The lesbian relationship in the book is only hinted at.

Review of "Boudu sauvé des eaux"

Billed as a comedy, but more a slightly poetic social satire. A restored B&W print with subtitles (sound somewhat muddy anyway). Absorbing and not quite as off the wall absurdist as The Lobster seen 2 days earlier.

The premise of the film is confined to the frame, the world depicted makes no sense outside its appearance but accepting that we are able to witness the bare truths underlying social norms and expectations.
